Welcome to "Humanise"
On the journey of human being
Hello and welcome
This is the first of my Humanise newsletters. This newsletter, and the content it will share, has been in the preparatory phase for quite some time. I’m excited to now give it wings.
For me it is about connection, and the disconnect it hopes transform.
On a tech level we are immeasurably connected.
On an interpersonal level we know a lot about the importance and value of connection. Even science picks up how we automatically connect, body, mind and even brains. Yet we become increasingly disconnected - from ourselves and from others.
Disconnection shows up in many guises, both in the home and at work.
One such issue is dehumanisation - usually towards people we consider different from us. Treating people as though they are not human.
Another is polarisation - where our opinions about what is right or wrong become so extreme that they don’t find the middle ground.
And yet another is trust and suspicion - where we keep our best ideas at work to ourselves in the fear that others with sabotage and run with them.
Not to mention the mental and social dis-ease at an ever earlier age.
In these times of increased polarisation, disruption and health challenge I hope to share some of my thoughts and experiences on how we might do it better:
Bringing Our Humanity to the Table
I will write about people expressing their humanity more fully in each facet of their life.
What it means to be human, the language of our humanity, and how we can feel comfortable to express more of it.
I will also share thoughts on how people can work together more effectively to build spaces, places and interactions to support, encourage, understand and create together.
Where people maintain their own sovereignty and truth alongside others. Moving beyond reactions and defences to work together towards a common good.
What brought me here
Three significant learning journeys on my vocational path have motivated my work, and the content I hope to share with you in the newsletters to come.
Psychophonetics personal and professional development, coaching and counselling, to bring forth the 'I am’, to transform inhibitions, and guide a morally intuitive, conscious and conscience-led life.
Research as a Masters and PhD exploring how organisations can support more empathy and compassion.
Developing Integrative Empathy and Empathic Intervision with my good colleague Dr Lidewij Niezink. (Science-informed approaches to research, apply and diversify empathy principles and practice in professional and organisational settings.)
I will share some of the theories we base our work on, snippets of my research and what I make of it, anecdotes from our work with integrative empathy, human-centred design and designing humanised organisations as well as exercises for you to reflect on and apply.
I look forward to exploring together, hearing your comments, questions and challenges, and hopefully growing humanised organisations and communities.
